We hear expressions like these very frequently and, many times, I’ve said them myself.
In 1 John 4:19, we have a simple gem of a scripture.
We Love Him Because He First Loved Us.
It’s not you that first loved Christ.
It’s not me.
It’s HE who loved us First.
Isn’t it so easy to think that everything revolves around us? It’s definitely prevalent in our ‘me’ generation. The truth is, it’s all about Him and not the other way around.
Before the foundation of the world he readied his plan to save you and me – and He didn’t need any help from us. I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel pretty small in the big scheme of things. And I don’t think the Lord would have it any other way. (If I could insert a smily emoticon here I would!)
Let’s personalize this verse for you.
Put your name in place of we and the name of the Lord in place of His as the pronoun.
Lil loves God because God first loved Lil.
_______ loves God because God first loved ________.
The Greek Word for first is protos which means the first in time or place, the first in any successions of things, first in rank.
He comes before all things. He succeeds all things. He is first in rank, time and place. He came to Earth taking upon Himself the form of a servant being made in the likeness of men to redeem us from all iniquity and the consequence of sin.
How He loves us!
His Love has made our lives LOVELY!
