It was a decision based entirely on impulse. I hopped on a train to Busan, South Korea because I wanted to sink my toes in the sand and wade in the water at Haeundae beach. I had gone through two surgeries and my recovery was going well for both. I was tired of being housebound.
I needed to feel the ocean breeze on my face.
It was only a daytrip… but it was glorious.
Can you imagine how the disciples felt as they followed the Lord?
I’m sure there were times when their fleshly attitude got the best of them.
There were tons of people that were following Jesus and demanding his attention.
They were serving the many people that came to them and helping the Lord in every day things.
I’m sure there were many times they threw their hands up and prayed for a Calgon moment to take them away. If there were vacations in biblical times, their bags would have been packed and ready to go.
Hello rest and relaxation!
In Mark 2:13, the Bible says, And he (Jesus) went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
The word resort is defined as “a place that is a popular destination for vacations or recreation, or which is frequented for a particular purpose’. Oh how I love that!!! Jesus is our ‘popular’ destination and we have need of a particular purpose…. RESTING, RESORTING and RELAXING in Him!
Are your burdens too heavy to carry? Is chaos reigning?
How can we resort to Jesus?
Matthew 11:28 says, Come to me, all ye that labour, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Rest in the Greek is the word ‘anapauo’ meaning to cease from any movement or labor in order to recover and collect one’s strength. The Lord wants us to resort to Him, rest in Him and to cease from our labor.
Come in the Greek was the word Deute and means to come hither and come now. In Biblical times, it was an interjection that was translated as “Come. Come Now!”
The Lord is Calling Us to Come
Can you hear Him calling?
“Come, my dear child. Come now.”
“Do not wait a second longer. Come now.”
“If you are carrying burdens that are too heavy, I will help you carry them. Come.”
“I will give you the rest you need”.
A Prayer for Today
“Lord, help us to resort to you when things are overwhelming and we are without strength. Help us to hear you calling to us amidst the chaos of the day and to put down everything to simply come to rest at your feet. More than anything, we desire to rest in you.”
