How to make a devotional basket for your quiet time
If I could ever get everything in arms reach for my quiet time it would be miraculous. Just as a scripture speaks to my heart while bible reading and I want to write a note in my bible…. now where’s my pen? I scurry to grab one… and now I can’t find my notepad. And on and on it goes… By the time I get everything together, I’m distracted and my quiet time has turned into a search and rescue effort instead of a time where you find solace in the Lord.
Sound familiar? Wouldn’t it be easier to have everything readily accessible and within reach?
I use a devotional basket that has helped me stay organized and keep everything I need at an arms reach for my quiet time.
We all need some christian prayer resources at our ready, don’t we? Here’s how I put my quiet time devotional basket together.
First, jot down what’s important to you and the items you use most frequently as you spend time in prayer and bible reading.
The search for the perfect basket
Will it be a cute picnic basket or a cute container from tjmax? The choice is yours. Measure your bible’s width to assure that your bible and other devo goodies will fit into your basket. I frequent thrift stores and find lovely baskets quite often.

My Favorite Items
My bible that I use for my daily devotions is the Holman KJV Study Bible.
A concordance/companion to help dissect difficult to understand scripture and to give context. I use the Bible Readers Companion.
A notepad to jot down notes and insights as you read and pray
A pencil case to keep all of my writing utensils together. Mine is neoprene and colorful and makes me smile!
The writing utensils that are my ultimate favorite are Micron Pens and Papermate Flair Pens. They come in a variety of color and write lovely. I use them to underline and circle scriptures as I read.
Crayola twistables are in a league all their own. They are magnificent and reasonably priced. They don’t bleed through the page and can even be erased to reduce the opacity of the color in your bible.
Sticky notes. I can’t live without sticky notes. If my margins aren’t large enough, I use them to take notes, write prayers and stick them wherever appropriate.
Stickers. I love small stickers to highlight a verse that God has spoken to me through. Later on, I can easily flip through and find whatever it is I’m looking for future reference.
Your favorite mug. I love sitting with my favorite mug in the morning with my favorite beverage. Will it be coffee, tea or water?
