Are you overwhelmed by large scale Bible Journaling and find yourself intimidated by the beautiful work of artists on social media? Do you choke when you finally sit down to be creative and record that “God moment” when He spoke to your heart?
My friends, you are not alone! When I first started Bible Journaling, I was so overwhelmed because, in my heart of hearts, I knew that I could never attain to such artistic skill! The fear was paralyzing! In my desire to record my faith and express my creativity, my solution was micro bible journaling.
It’s doable. It’s easy. And it’s small.
And that made me breathe a sigh of relief. Suddenly the fear was gone.
How did I equip myself when first starting to journal? I’ve kept these five little tips close to my heart that have really helped me keep my mind and heart in the right perspective. Hopefully they will bless you too!
Your art is yours and not anyone else’s. It is the expression of your heart, your experience and your faith. There is no one who could mimic you, since you were wonderfully created in His image! You are unique! Since you are different from everyone else, don’t you think your artwork will also be expressed in your own unique fashion? Does your work have to look like the ‘status quo to be beautiful? I think not! (Check out Genesis 1:27)
We are the first to always belittle ourselves and what we do. Let’s just stop that nonsense, okay? Who in the world does he think he is to belittle you, who has been redeemed by God? God has redeemed your soul and your artwork would be on his refrigerator if He had one!
Accept your imperfections
You will make mistakes. There is no doubt about it. There is none perfect (check out Romans 3:10). Embrace and allow your imperfections to remind you that His Grace is sufficient. He is perfect. You are not. (Check out Romans 3:10)
Make it about growth
Are you in temptation? Journal it. Did you overcome a struggle? Write it down. Has God given you the victory? Document it! Your bible will tell of the wonderful moments how you stood against the waves of trial. When you look back, you can be reminded that God has caused you to grow and flourish! (Check out 1 Peter 2:2)
Check your motives
For many years, I lived for the applause of men. After running like a rat on a wheel, I finally was able to see myself as I was. Broken and in need of His grace. It was a pivotal moment in my faith. Every so often I like to ask myself why it is I do what I do. Am I creating so others can see my skill or are am I creating so my Bible will be a wonderful resource of my faith walk and journey in the Lord? (Check out Hebrews 4:12)
Gather your Supplies and Start Now!
And now on to the good part! Gather your supplies. They don’t have to be the best and can be as simple as a ballpoint pen if that’s what you have. It’s all good, lovely friends! It’s time to dig into the word. Mark, draw, do word studies, write down chapter titles, doodle and journal how the Lord has spoken to you through His word! I challenge you to start micro journaling! There is no better time than the present!
A perfect place to start would be to micro journal the scriptures mentioned above in this blog post!
Go ahead! Dig in the Word!
