In Philippians 4:8 we are encouraged to fill our minds with things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, things that are of good report and full of virtue.
The word lovely in the Greek is prosphiles, and means, ‘acceptable and pleasing’. Filling our minds with the word of God, thoughts of the wonderful work He has done in our lives, and giving Him praise is something that we as Christians should do daily!
Today I’d love to share 3 ways that you can start your day off to glorify the Lord and make your day Lovely in Him.
I know that there are days that don’t start off ‘on the right foot’ and where circumstances make handling every day burdens difficult, but I’m convinced that when we do these 3 things, it will help us to live in Him, yield ourselves to him and know that even the most difficult experiences can work together for His good.
#1. Allow God to Speak to you through His word
Every day we need healthy food filled with nutrients to sustain and nourish our body. The same can be said of nourishing our souls with the Word of God.
Scripture is literally ‘God Breathed Words’ (2 Timothy 3:16) and speaks of Who God is and His design for our life. The Bible gives us hope and encouragement for the present and future but can also be a balm of healing to experiences of the past. Saturating our heart with the word of God doesn’t have to take hours of study. Just take some time every day to let God speak to you through His word.
#2. Express your Heart to God in Prayer
What a wonderful moment it was when I first prayed to the Lord, asked for forgiveness, and was received into His family! If you’ve had the same experience then I know you feel the same! Prayer is a request or expression addressed to the Lord and He wants to give us the desires of our heart. There are times where our prayers might not be best for our circumstances and we have to trust His wisdom in knowing what is best for us. He might not alter things to our desired result but we know that it does change our hearts and conforms us to His image. We can rest in knowing that He gets the glory in all things! Let’s set aside a specific time each day with quite time with Him. (Luke 6:12)
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3
I know how easy it is to get caught up in my own ‘bubble’ but I’ve seen some of the sweetest moments when sacrificing my will and helping others.
It could be a kind word to someone or giving of your unique talents to your church, The Lord knows your unique giftings and every member in the body of Christ is capable of ministering by simply being available! Let Him use you!
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10
Want to Make your Day Lovely in Him? Starting the day by Saturating our heart in the Word, fellowship with Him and then taking those moments to minister to others. It can really make a difference in our hearts and Christian Walk!
