Your day starts off horribly. Your kids aren’t cooperating. You had ‘words’ with your husband. You try your best to function as the day goes on, but everything seems to go downhill fast.
And I mean faaaasst.
How can we prepare ourselves to deal with the stress of life?
We are commanded in Philippians 4:8 to fill our minds with things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and things that are of good report virtue.
The word lovely in the Greek is prosphiles, and means, ‘acceptable and pleasing’. Even if things are not going your way, I want to share three ways to make your day Lovely in God! When we do these three things, it will help us to KNOW him, YIELD ourselves to Him and KNOW that even the most difficult experiences can work together for His good. God’s got our back!
Here’s my list of three ways to make your day Lovely in God!
#1. Allow God to Speak to you through His word
Every day we need healthy food filled with nutrients to sustain and nourish our body.
The same is true with nourishing our souls with the Word of God.
Scripture is literally ‘God Breathed Words’ (2 Timothy 3:16) and speaks of Who God is and His design for our life. It’s amazing to think He has a hope and a future for us…
but His word can also be a balm of healing for our past.
Saturating our heart with the word of God doesn’t have to take hours of study.
Take a moment every morning and ask God to speak to your heart through His word.
Read a chapter and let His truth take root in your heart and soul!
#2. Express your Heart to God in Prayer
My husband tells the story of the first time he saw me in church shortly after I became a Christian.
He admired me from afar. He thought I was pretty. (His words not mine!) He liked what he saw. Admiring from a distance simply wasn’t enough. He had to introduce himself,, put himself out there and start conversation. He had to get to know me on a personal level.
Isn’t it the same with the Lord?
God doesn’t want to be on the outside looking in. He wants to get to know us on a deep and personal level in relationship.
He wants to converse with you, show His love to you and get to know you. God wants you to express your heart’s desire to Him. There is nothing too big or too small that isn’t important to Him. Many times we will see those desires come to fruition and other times not. We can trust His wisdom and know that He is conforming us to His image.
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
#3 Ministering to Others
It’s easy to get caught up in a ‘bubble’ of self, isn’t it? On the flip side, I’ve seen some of the sweetest moments when I’ve sacrificed my will, got out of my comfort zone and reached out to others.
Take that word that you’ve been reading, those prayers that you’ve been praying, and let your hands and feet be used for His glory! Speak encouragement to someone’s soul. Give of your unique talents to your church. Welcome New Visitors to your church. Shower someone with your gift of hospitality.
The Lord knows your unique gifts and every member in His body is capable of ministering by simply being available!
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10
